Our next Saturday night dance features 2 acts – solo performer Ric Hudson and the band Nic and His Hipshots. There will be live music and dancing from 7 to 11. Entry cost is $30 for Southside members and $35 for guests. No need to book, and you can pay by cash or card at the door. If you’re coming with a group, let us know by emailing bookings@southsiderocknroll.com and we’ll save a table for you.

The Austrian Club Restaurant is closed at the moment. We’ll let you know if that changes before the 22nd.

Dance Entry Fees Reduced for 22 March and 12 April

It is great to be back to Rock'n'Roll for 2025.

Recently there has been some feedback that has concerned members with the rising entry cost for our dances.

I just wanted to explain why the entry fees have increased. 

Since Covid it has been difficult for the Committee to run an event where we break even with cash flow.

In the last three years, there has only been a handful of events where we have broken even.

Reasons for the increase in costs include:

  • Band Costs have increased. 

  • Accommodation costs have increased.

  • Hall costs are increasing.

Also members supporting our events has nearly halved.

Entry numbers used to be between 100 and 120.

In the last 2 years numbers have generally been between 55 to 75.

The Committee would really love to see more people attend our band nights.  So the Committee has decided to run two trial events in an endeavour to see if we can get more members to attend our dances.

At the dances on the 22nd March and 12th April the entry costs will be:

Members - $30 each

Non-Members - $35 each

We are hoping that this reduced cost will substantially encourage more members to attend.   

Without members of the Club attending dances, we won’t be able to continue to put on bands.

Lessons

Congratulations to all our new members, and those returning – you are halfway through your Beginner Rock’n’Roll course with Rodney and Robyn. It was great to see so many of you at the review session on 23 February.

We are currently scheduling more lessons for the next few months. We’ll let members know once we’ve confirmed dates, times and topics with our tutors.
