March Newsletter

April is the cruellest month ...

I always thought this was a Shakespeare quote, but Wikipedia says it’s from TS Elliot’s The Wasteland (1922). Anyway, April is full of public holidays, with Easter running right into Anzac Day, making it difficult to schedule events. We have 2 events scheduled for April – our regular social dance practice on Sunday 6 April from 3 to 5:30 or 6ish, depending on numbers, and on Saturday 12 April Roc-a-Tac, 7-11pm. Both events are at the Austrian Club in Mawson. See details online and elsewhere in this newsletter.

Lesson Review – 30 March

On Sunday 30 March there will be a Beginner Rock’n’Roll Review Session starting at 2pm. Sonja will review all the steps taught by Rodney and Robyn in the recent Beginner Rock’n’Roll. The session will finish by 3pm and will cost $5 per person, which includes entry to the social dance practice at 3. This class is a review of what has already been taught, not a beginner course. If you’ve done other beginner courses, you may find it valuable. If you’re new to rock’n’roll, check out our next Beginner Rock’n’Roll course below.

Beginner Rock’n’Roll with Colin and Alanna – Sundays in May

If you missed our first beginner course for 2025, here’s your chance to learn the basics of Rock’n’Roll. Colin and Alanna will teach a 4 week Rock’n’Roll course for beginners, and others wanting to consolidate what they’ve already learned. The course begins at 2pm on Sunday 4 May and continues on the 11th, 18th and 25th. All sessions will be at the Austrian Club in Mawson. For costs and registration please email bookings@southsiderocknroll.com

New Post Box

Southside Rock’n’Roll has had a post box at Tuggeranong for many years, which was convenient when we were based at the Burns Club. Since we’ve moved to Mawson for our regular Sunday sessions, the Committee decided to move the PO box to Mawson. Our new mailing address is PO Box 430 Mawson 2607. Mail sent to our old box will be forwarded for several months.
