Sydney band On the Prowl will play at our new venue, Canberra Deakin Football Club, on Saturday 20 September. The band will play rock’n’roll music from 7 to 11pm, with recorded music for partner and line dancing in the breaks. Doors open at 6:30pm.

Beginner Rockabilly Lessons
Did you enjoy learning Rockabilly dancing in June and July and want to consolidate what you’ve learned? Maybe you’re heading to Crank It Up in November and want to show off your moves, or dance to Nic and his Hipshots at our Christmas party on 20 December. Shane and Annie will be teaching a Beginner Rockabilly course starting Sunday 19 October and continuing on 26 October and 2 and 9 November. Classes start at 2pm and finish at 3 at the Slovenian Club in Phillip.
After class we have social dancing for all Club members. This is a chance for you to meet other Club members and practise what you’ve learned. There is a bar at the Slovenian Club, and we’ll provide tea and coffee. A restaurant will be opening there soon – we’ll let you know details when available.
This is a 4-lesson course costing $40 for the full course, or $10 per session. For insurance reasons, all students must be current members of Southside Rock’n’Roll Club. Club membership costs $20 per year. To book or for further information contact us at bookings@southsiderocknroll.com
Sunday Social Dancing
From Sunday 19 October we will trial Sunday Social Dances at the Slovenian Club, 19 Irving Street in Phillip. Since lessons finish at 3, we’ll start the dancing from 3:15. If you arrive early, please wait in the bar area. We will play dance music until 4:30 or later if enough people want to stay. Entry cost is $5 per person.
Thank you to all members who attended the Annual General Meeting on 31 August and congratulations to the new committee. Member discussion about the Club’s future raised some good ideas for the new committee to consider. Members of the Management Committee for 2025-26 are: Arthur Pascoe (President), Lindy Fennell (Vi ce President), Vers Mandanici (Treasurer), Eileen Tannachion (Secretary and committee membersd Bronwyn Jeffries, Irene Ryan, Alison Brookhouse, and Cheryl Love. Two committee member vacancies were not filled at the AGM. The Committee will consider appointing two committee members at its first meeting on 22 September.
